An Afternoon with Ron McKee
This video will show you lay in technique, mixing of colors and some palette knife. Hope you enjoy watching it as much as I had painting it!

Watch how Ron begins to inspire his four month old granddaughter Harper with a large oil painting of Hillside Poppies. Harper watches and becomes more and more intrigued with the colors, the brushes and her grandfather.
Laying in a new oil I simply use a long brush on a dry linen canvas. Quickly putting down reference points and with light washes of color enables me to quickly get the lay in of the painting. From there you'll see in the video I then start with thicker paint and define the darks however not with the blacks! Use the dark purples and dark greens instead. This gives you a much richer depth.

Any size canvas will work as long as it is prepared properly. With enough care and thought put into your canvas any painting then has a chance of becoming a masterpiece.
